Health Benefits of Wild Rice

Wild rice is a gluten free whole grain. Wild rice has fewer calories per serving than pasta or other rice. A study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition highlights the importance of choosing whole grains such as wild rice, rather than refined grains (like white rice or pasta) to maintain a healthy body weight.

The U.S. Dietary Guidelines and the My Pyramid Program have placed grains as the foundation of a healthy balanced diet. They recommend that we eat between six and ten ounces of grains a day with half of our servings from whole grains, such as wild rice. According to the USDA’s Center for Nutrition Policy, people who eat three daily servings of whole grains may lower the risk of cancer, diabetes, heart disease, and obesity.
